MagnetoClip User Manual

Comprehensive documentation covering setup, activation, download acceleration, browser extensions, torrents, remote control, file preview, webpage archiving, speed testing, and system architecture.

1. Getting Started

MagnetoClip is a Windows desktop download manager that captures files, videos, music, documents, and torrents from the web into smart, auto-sorted categories. It pairs an IDM-class multi-connection download core with a companion browser extension that detects downloadable content in real time as you browse.

System Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-Bit editions).
  • Network: An active internet connection for multi-chunk downloads and stream capture.
  • License: A valid serial key (release builds only — development builds skip licensing); new machines also get a free 7-day trial.

Starting the App

Launch MagnetoClip from the Windows Start menu or desktop shortcut. A splash screen appears while the application initializes local SQLite databases and network engines, after which the main window opens on the Overview page.

First Launch Activation
If you started MagnetoClip for the first time, you will be prompted to activate your serial license key before accessing the main window.

2. Activating Your License

Each serial key binds cryptographically to one PC. License keys follow the Ed25519 standard format:

MGCL-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

Step-by-Step Activation

  1. When the Activate MagnetoClip dialog appears, paste or type your serial key. Extra spaces, hyphens, and lowercase characters are normalized automatically.
  2. Click Activate.
  3. On success, the application unlocks immediately. The PC's unique machine ID is recorded by the license server, binding this computer as the authorized hardware.
  4. If the key is already bound to another PC, the dialog displays the specific hostname holding the activation. Deactivate it on that machine first (Settings → License → Deactivate this PC…) or contact support to request a reset.

License Activation Messages Reference

Status Message Meaning & Recommended Action
Could not reach the license server Check your internet connection and proxy settings, then retry.
This serial key has been revoked The license key was disabled by the vendor — contact customer support.
This serial key has expired The subscription term has concluded — renew your plan to continue.
That serial was not recognized Typographical error in the serial key — re-check the email receipt.
Too many attempts Rate-limiting safety triggered — wait approximately 60 seconds and retry.
OS Credential Store Security
Your serial key is stored securely in the Windows Credential Manager (OS Keyring) — never in plaintext configuration files. On subsequent launches, MagnetoClip silently validates the signed token against the server.

Moving Your License to Another PC

To migrate your license to a new PC: open Settings on the current machine, scroll down to License, and click Deactivate this PC…. This frees your slot immediately on the license server so your key can be used on the new computer.

3. Interface Tour

Each tab is a table with four columns: Site, Description, URL, and Usage (always **Free**). Click any **URL** cell to open that site in your default browser. Everything else is read-only. The reference ships with the app, so the page works with no internet connection, and nothing on it is fetched or refreshed at runtime.

Note
MagnetoClip is a general-purpose download tool. It is not affiliated with, does not endorse, and is not responsible for any of the listed sites or for the content available through them. Always confirm that you are entitled to download the content you save, and review each site's own terms and the law in your jurisdiction.

Settings Page

Every tunable option, grouped into General, Downloads, Duplicate Detection, Network Speed Test, File Preview, Webpage Archiver, Browser & Capture, Torrent, Proxy, Updates, Remote Control and License (see section 10).

4. Adding Downloads

Click the Add button on the Downloads page (or paste directly from clipboard).

New Download Dialog Fields

Dialog Field Description & Supported Inputs
URL Accepts standard http://, https://, internal browser blob:, and magnet: URIs.
Filename Optional custom name (retains server-provided name if left blank).
Save to Target folder (defaults to your configured download path or category subfolder).
Category Pre-selected automatically based on file extension matching rules.
Connections Allocates 1 to 64 parallel TCP connection segments for this transfer.
Proxy profile Route download through a saved proxy configuration or Direct.
Username / Password Optional HTTP Basic-Auth credentials (stored securely in Windows Credential Manager).
Cookies Custom header-style cookies (e.g. session_id=xyz789; token=abc).

Understanding blob: URLs

Browser-Exclusive Blob Fetching
Right-clicking and copying link addresses on modern web video players often produces blob:https://... addresses that only exist in browser memory. When the MagnetoClip companion extension is installed, the app requests the raw stream bytes directly through native messaging — simply keep the source browser tab open until the transfer finishes.

Multi-Segment Resilience & Sidecars

Transfers are split into byte ranges fetched simultaneously. State is recorded continuously in a .mclip JSON sidecar file. If your machine restarts or experiences connection loss, downloads resume from the exact byte offset without wasting bandwidth.

Download Status Flow: Queued → Scheduled → Connecting → Downloading → Paused → Retrying → Verifying → Completed (or Failed / Verification Failed / Stopped).

5. Browser Integration

The Manifest V3 companion extension bridges MagnetoClip with your web browsers via Chrome Native Messaging to detect media, intercept links, and capture chunked streams.

Supported Browsers: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Brave, Vivaldi, and Chromium.

Setup Instructions

  1. Open the Browser page in MagnetoClip and tick Enable browser integration.
  2. Under Installed browsers, locate your browser and click Install host (registers the native messaging registry key).
  3. Under Browser extension, click Prepare extension and load it:
    • Chrome / Edge / Brave / Vivaldi / Chromium: Open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode, click Load unpacked, and select the extension folder shown on the screen.
    • Firefox: Open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox, click Load Temporary Add-on, and select the extension manifest file.
  4. The status indicator at the bottom turns Green when connected.
  5. Use Re-detect browsers after installing a new browser. The Auto-install button (when shown) pushes the published extension via browser policy.

Capture Modes & Settings

Option Functionality
Enable browser integration Master toggle for the native messaging bridge.
Capture media streams Detects embedded video and audio streams as pages load.
Make MagnetoClip default downloader Intercepts all browser download requests and passes them to the acceleration engine.
Show confirmation dialog Displays a popup prompt before queuing captured media.
Notify when files are found Fires Windows tray notification balloons upon detection.
Skip all detected files without asking Silences confirmation popups entirely — detected files are skipped automatically. Turn it back on in the same setting to restore prompts.

When a file is intercepted, the Downloadable File Detected popup offers four quick actions: Download now, Download later (queues to list), Skip (reject just this file), or Skip all (moves all currently detected files to the Detected page; future files still ask for confirmation).

6. Capturing Files and Streaming Media

MagnetoClip recognizes over 100 extensions across 10 media categories and automatically sorts them into dedicated folders when Auto-categorize by file type is enabled.

Embedded yt-dlp & FFmpeg Bridge

Streaming services are processed through a dedicated engine supporting dozens of video and music platforms, alongside direct HTTP Live Streaming (.m3u8) and Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (.mpd) manifests. The app can also sniff audio/video manifests directly from the pages you visit, and fall back to browser-assisted capture for challenge-protected streams.

Streaming Quality Selector
Select your preferred global quality under Settings → Streaming media quality:
  • Best Available: Downloads highest available video resolution and bitrate.
  • 1080p Full HD: Caps video resolution at 1920×1080.
  • 720p HD: Optimizes bandwidth with standard high definition.
  • Audio Only: Extracts audio track directly into MP3/AAC container.
  • Ask each time: Shows a resolution-ladder picker so you can choose the exact format before downloading.

Separate audio and video DASH streams are multiplexed automatically by the bundled FFmpeg binary into a single synchronized container with metadata intact.

Playlists

Paste a playlist URL into the Add dialog and MagnetoClip lists every video with name and duration. Tick the ones you want (or Select all), cap the number of items if you like, and download them in one shot. Already-downloaded videos are tracked in an archive so you are not asked about them again. Streamed video and audio tracks are merged automatically (via bundled FFmpeg tooling) into a single playable file, and titles/metadata are inferred where possible.

7. Torrents (libtorrent Client)

The dedicated Torrents page provides complete BitTorrent capability without requiring third-party clients.

Finding Torrent Sites

Open the Sites page for an offline reference of third-party sites that host torrents, anime and streaming content — each entry has a description and a clickable URL. See Sites Page in the interface tour.

Adding Torrents

  • Add Magnet: Paste a magnet URI (magnet:?xt=urn:btih:...) or .torrent URL.
  • Upload File: Select a local .torrent file from disk.
  • Metadata Preview: After loading you get a preview: name, total size, tracker, info hash and the full file list, then options for save folder, category, sequential download and seed after download.

System Protocol Registration

Register MagnetoClip as your default handler in Settings → Torrent:

  • Register to open .torrent files: Double-clicking .torrent files in Windows opens MagnetoClip.
  • Register magnet: links: Clicking magnet links on web pages launches the download dialogue.

8. Remote Dashboard (Port 8477)

Control and monitor your downloads from a smartphone, tablet, or secondary PC on the same local network.

Remote Control Setup
1. Open Settings -> Remote Control
2. Tick "Enable remote dashboard" (Default port: 8477; leave it unless it conflicts)
3. Click "Show QR..." and scan the code with your phone, or type the displayed URL into its browser

Access is protected by a pairing token; clicking Regenerate Token invalidates all previously paired devices at once. The dashboard can pause, resume and watch downloads — it never exposes your filesystem. The remote web application runs on a lightweight Python aiohttp server and never exposes local files or credentials outside the network.

9. Proxy Profiles

Manage multiple proxy servers under Settings → Proxy → Manage proxy profiles…:

  • Protocol Support: HTTP, HTTPS, and SOCKS5.
  • Credentials: Usernames and passwords are encrypted in the Windows Credential Manager keyring — never stored in plaintext SQLite databases.
  • Routing: Set a global default proxy or choose a specific profile per individual download in the Add dialog.

Browser

See the capture-modes table in section 5, plus Streaming quality (Best / 1080p / 720p / Audio only / Ask each time) and Video quality (the default resolution/format behavior, including Ask each time for the per-video resolution picker). FFmpeg folder lets you point the app at your own FFmpeg installation instead of the bundled one.

Duplicate Detection

Setting Default Meaning
Detect files you have already downloaded on Compare new downloads against a local hash index
Skip duplicates automatically off When on, duplicates are skipped instead of asking
Index files after a download completes on Add finished files to the duplicate index

Filenames are matched first (fast); a hash comparison (xxHash-based) confirms a true duplicate. When a duplicate is found you can Open the existing file, Download anyway, or Skip. Use Scan Downloads Folder to build the index from files you already have.

Updates Engine

Automatic checking is on by default; press Check Now to look manually. When an update is found: Download fetches it (progress shown, integrity verified), then Install closes MagnetoClip, applies the update and restarts the app automatically.

Network Speed Test

Setting Default Meaning
Enable built-in network speed tests On Master switch for the Speed page
Run speed tests automatically Off Periodically runs a test in the background
Test size 25 MB Amount downloaded per test
Interval 12 h How often automatic tests run

File Preview

Enable built-in file preview is the master switch for the in-app viewer (see section 11).

Webpage Archive

Setting Default Meaning
Enable webpage archiving On Master switch for the Archiver (see section 12)
Inline images as base64 On Embeds images directly in the HTML
Inline CSS On Embeds stylesheets so they survive offline
Inline JavaScript Off Embeds scripts too — can change how pages render
Max resource size 5 MB Skips page resources larger than this

11. File Preview

Finished downloads can be previewed inside the app — images, text, video, audio and torrent metadata — without opening an external program. Preview only touches downloads you already have: nothing extra is downloaded and no new files are created.

Where to Find It

  • Downloads page — right-click a completed download and choose Preview.
  • Download Details — the Preview button on any finished download.

What the In-App Viewer Can Show

Media Type Supported Formats Viewer Capabilities
Images .jpg .jpeg .png .gif .webp .bmp .svg .tiff .heic .heif .avif and more Zoom & fit-to-window controls
Text & source code .txt .json .csv .xml .md .py .js .css and more Plain-text rendering up to 5 MB
Video .mp4 .mkv .webm .avi .mov .m4v and more Full playback controls
Audio .mp3 .flac .ogg .wav .aac .m4a and more Full playback controls
Torrents .torrent Metadata: name, size, info hash & file list
PDF Handling
PDFs are handed to your system's default PDF viewer instead of the in-app viewer. Files the viewer does not recognise open in their default application. To switch the whole feature off, clear Settings → Built-in File Preview.

12. Webpage Archive

Save any webpage as a self-contained offline copy: one .html file with its images and stylesheets embedded, ready to open with no internet connection and nothing extra saved.

Archiving From the Browser

With browser integration enabled (see section 5), right-click any http:// or https:// page and choose Archive this page with MagnetoClip. The app fetches the page server-side — only the URL (and cookie/referrer data) crosses the native-messaging bridge, never the page's bytes — and saves it as <title>.html in your download folder as a Webpage download.

Archiving From the App

On the Downloads page click Add, paste the page's address, and tick Save as a self-contained webpage archive (offline HTML).

Tuning

Embedding options live under Settings → Webpage Archive. Images and CSS are inlined by default for a faithful offline copy; JavaScript embedding is off by default because it can change how pages render. Max resource size skips page resources larger than the limit.

13. Pause Control

The Pause page provides one unambiguous control: a single switch that pauses everything at once, with an optional countdown that resumes downloads automatically.

Pausing

  • Open Pause and tick Pause all downloads — every running and waiting download stops immediately.
  • Downloads added while paused stay in the paused list instead of starting.
  • The status label confirms the current state; the pause state is saved with your settings and survives restarts.
  • Untick the switch to resume, or wait for the auto-resume timer.

Auto-Resume Countdown

Resume Timer
While paused, set Automatically resume after to a number of hours (1–168). The default 0 h (off) keeps downloads paused until you flip the switch back. With a timer set, the page shows a live countdown (Resuming in 3 h 05 min) and downloads restart on their own when it reaches zero.

14. Speed Test

The Speed page measures your connection with a built-in test — no third-party tools or websites required.

  • Run Test — full test: download → upload → latency. Progress shows the current phase (Download… / Upload…) with a percentage, and the animated gauge centres on the upload speed while uploading.
  • Upload Test — measures upload speed and latency only.
  • Export CSV — saves your test history to a CSV file.

Results

Card What It Shows
Download / Upload Throughput in Mbps
Latency Ping in milliseconds
Server The test server used
ISP Your provider, when identified
History Recent test runs with timestamps
ISP Throttling Compares runs over time and warns when a result looks throttled
Configuration
A card shows -- until its metric has been measured at least once. Use Settings → Network Speed Test to enable the page, turn on automatic background tests, and tune the test size (default 25 MB) and interval (default 12 h).

15. System Tray

MagnetoClip minimizes to the Windows taskbar notification area (System Tray). Hovering over the icon displays active download counts and aggregate throughput speed.

Tray Context Menu:

  • Open MagnetoClip: Restores main window.
  • Pause All / Resume All: Global transfer state override.
  • Open Remote…: Displays mobile pairing QR code.
  • License…: Displays masked key and validation status.
  • Exit: Terminates engines and saves all .mclip sidecars.

Clicking a finished download notification reveals the file in Explorer; clicking a detected-file notification jumps to the Detected page.

16. Where MagnetoClip Stores Your Data

Data Category Storage Location & Protection
Downloads Database SQLite WAL-mode database in %APPDATA%\MagnetoClip
Serial License Key Windows Credential Manager (OS Encrypted Keyring)
Proxy Credentials Windows Credential Manager
Application Logs Structured JSON logs with automated credential scrubbing
Privacy Guarantee
All metrics shown on the Analytics page are computed 100% locally from your local SQLite database. No browsing history, file names, or download URLs are ever transmitted to external servers.

17. Troubleshooting

Quick solutions to common configuration and networking questions:

The app asks for a serial key on every start
Verify your internet connection; the desktop application must reach the license server to validate the bound machine token. If the network is operating normally, re-enter the serial key once to refresh the Windows Credential Manager entry.
"Verification failed" error on a completed download
The transferred file checksum (MD5/SHA-256) did not match the manifest supplied by the server. Right-click the download item and choose Retry Download to re-fetch corrupted chunks.
Speed test cards show `--`
A card stays `--` until its metric has been measured: run Run Test to fill all cards, or Upload Test for upload + latency only.
Blob URL download hangs at 0%
blob: resources reside inside the active browser tab memory. Keep the source browser tab open until the native messaging transfer reaches 100%.
Browser extension is not detecting media files
In MagnetoClip, navigate to the Browser page and ensure: (1) Browser integration is enabled, (2) Host is installed for your browser, (3) Extension is loaded, and (4) The status dot is Green. Afterward, reload the target web page.
BitTorrent transfers show zero connected peers
Enable DHT and PEX under Settings > Torrent. Verify that incoming TCP/UDP port 6881 is permitted through Windows Defender Firewall and router NAT rules.
Remote dashboard unreachable from smartphone
Ensure both your PC and phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Check that the port (8477) server status shows Running in MagnetoClip, then scan a fresh QR code after regenerating the token.
Forgot which PC holds my license key
The activation error message names the specific bound hostname. Deactivate the license on that computer under Settings > License, or contact support@magnetoclip.app to request a machine binding reset.
